Parabalooza Sunday

Believe it or not, I actually woke up this morning before the alarm clock went off at 6:15 A.M. There was a fabulous storm that had rolled in during the night. I woke up to the sound of pitter pattering rain on the roof. The lightening was beautiful… Not the big loud crashing kind, but the flicker here and there with rolling rumbley thunder. It wasn’t even a battle to get out of bed. I was perky and rested… (This is unheard of for me by the way). I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Church was exceptionally excellent. Joe and I both worked in the sound booth, so we got to hear all three services. Our pastor is currently working through a series on the book of Revelation. Today he spoke “The Seven Trumpets” Revelation 8 & 9 -Concentrating on the locusts…. Wow! All I can say is I am thankful that my family will be wearing the seal! I do not understand most of Revelation, but I do understand that I want my household prepared for these things when they happen. Most people choose not to think of such things. I personally believe it is better to study about them now then to find out later that I should have read my Bible more.

This past week has been Kid’s Music Camp at the church. Isabel says that this year has been the best one yet. The title was Parabalooza, and of course it was about many different parables in the Bible. It was a game show theme, so the kids actually played all different kinds of games on the stage along with acting and singing.  This was the first play we have done with audience participation. It was really a hoot! They played relay games for points. Each game lead into a new parable… For example the game “Blocks Rock” lead into the parable of the wise man built on the rocks while the foolish man built on the sand. ect. ect. It was fun for us to watch and the kids all had a blast…. All the kid’s did a great job!

I have been having a lot of stomach trouble lately.. It seems to be getting worse instead of better… Not sure what all that’s about… Hopefully it will straighten out soon. At least for the moment my back is not screaming! Big Praise! Well I really don’t have anything more to add for tonight… Until next time!

A Slow Saturday

This morning I took Isabel to the dress rehearsal for the Kid’s Musical. This will probably be one of the last kids musical’s she is in. She is one of the oldest in the group. The musical is starting to come together nicely… I think it will be really cute.

We got home about 3:30 P.M. to find that the A/C’s had frozen and the house was blazing hot. I decided to take the kids swimming at what we call “The Beach”. Otherwise known as Mary Lee Park… Joe stayed home and worked on the A/C’s while we were gone. The filters were needing changed and the units needed cleared out….

Anyway were starting dinner and watching the Hallmark channel here. I plan to get to be early tonight. Joe and I are both in the sound booth tomorrow, so it will be an early morning, with a long day to follow. Music practice starts at 4PM and the performance will be at 6:30 P.M. in the GMBC Auditorium. Hope to see you there!

Update

Well I can’t believe summer is almost over. Time seems to go by so fast! My summer break from school is over and I started class again last week. Things are going well in that department. So far I have made all high A’s. I was very ready for a break at the end of last semester. There was a lot of drawing in my last class. I am not good at that, but I did my best. The class I just started is geared towards digital illustration. I am liking the class so far, I think I will learn a lot.

We are all doing well, kids are all good. I think they are about ready for school to start… At least I know the little ones are. Travis will be a freshman, Isabel is starting Jr. High (6th), Anthony is going into 2nd and Jonathon is going into Kinder. They finally will all be on the Wall campus which is nice. Joe is thinking about getting his Masters in education. We are looking at our options.

I don’t have a whole lot to say… I am sorry I have not kept up with this blog any more than I keep up wth e-mail. I am not going to get rid of it though. My boss showed me a networking browser called Flock…. www.flock.com -  It is a good way to keep up with all of your networking accounts. So now I can keep up with my Facebook, myspace, twitter, and my blog all in one spot. I hope that it will help me stay on to of them all. I will try and figure out how to send one post to update everything… Not sure if it does that or not. I mostly use facebook but I have friends on myspace that are not on facebook so I keep it. AND… Travis has myspace, so I keep it around for parenting reasons…. Anyway soooo… If you want the updated stuff about us find me on facebook…. I am on facebook A LOT and update my pictures often. Ok…. Well guess that is about all for now!

Busy Busy Busy

Life never seems to slow down! I can’t believe it is already Easter. In two months the kids will be out of school again for summer. Can yall believe Travis will be a freshman and Isabel will be in Junior High? They grow so fast! Right now Travis is playing tennis and consternating on band. He told me last week that he did not want to play football next year. We shall see if that sticks he said the same thing this past summer as well. But as of right now he wants to concentrate on golf, band and tennis next year…Isabel is back in gymnastics, she took a 2 month break to focus on TAKS tutorials. We got her TAKS Test results this week and she did very well. She made a 90% in Reading. She has not taken Science and Math yet. Travis also did well on his tests but I don’t remember off hand what he told me he made. Anthony is reading up a storm and Jonathon’s speech is coming along well.

I just submitted my last art assignment for this semester. So far I have an 97+ but this last art assignment is worth 70 points and my Artist Statement which I have yet to write is worth 30. So we shall see what I end up with as my final grade… The semester officially ends tomorrow, and my next class does not start until the 6th. I am ready for the break even if it is a short one! Work has been going well. We are moving to 3 services on Easter Sunday, so there has been lots of extra work the last two week and probably lots more to come. All of our signage is changing so lots and lots of print work….

Joe is doing well he is still working for Verizon in the call center. His supervisor has been talking to him the last couple of days about going to a supervisor position. We will see if it happens, Joe said he would but only if he can stay on nights. I am surprised at how well working nights has worked out for him. Sometimes he does not get enough sleep, but for the most part he does ok.  When he gets super tired I force him to bed and take all the kids to do something for a few hours so he can catch up. It works out well.

Well I don’t have a whole lot to say, we are kinda boring! Here are some new pictures, Yall enjoy!

It’s Been a While

Well it has been a while since my last post. Several things happened in this last month that are worth blogging about, I just have not had the time. Lets start with school. Yes, I really did starts school. I am now in my fourth week of my Computer Lit class. it is going well. I did not feel that I needed a comp lit class but was advised to take it anyway. So far my grades are good. I am looking forward to my next class. I will learn more about Adobe Software and Design Concept which I am excited about.

It has been time for me to buy a new computer for some time. Mine was old and I gave it to the kids about a year ago for their games. Joe had been sharing his laptop with me, but it is not powerful enough for the graphic software that I use. I had been looking at computers for a while and finally ordered one. Since my computers are mainly used for Graphic Design so I decided to go with a Mac. I have been very happy with my choice! Mac’s are great computers and surprisingly easy to use and excellent design computers.

While for the most part everything has gone great this month, there have been a few mishaps as well. We had a bit of an electrical problem two weeks ago. The wires behind the main breaker to our house became loose and started arching. Evidently this had been going on unnoticed for some time and finally came to a head last Thursday. Long story short, we almost had a major house fire. Joe heard it popping, he was able to get the electricity turned off and the fire put out before we had any damage. It was a mess that could have been so much worse, thankfully did not get out of control. We still have a home with minimal damage, but more importantly than that nobody was hurt or killed.

All in all we are doing great. Currently we are passing around a stomach bug. Joe had it yesterday and I had it today, Jonathon has had an ear infection, so far everyone else is well. I hope it stays that way. Well I hope to post some new pictures soon. I have not moved pictures from the otherlaptop to my Mac. Myself and the kids along with Mom and Tammie went to Fort Worth to Robin and Alex’s house. We had a suprise baby shower for Tiffany. We were able to all spend good time togather. I have a few good pictures of Makaila. I will make a point to blog more often, sorry it took so long, adjusting to my school schudule has been a challange….Love you all!

New Baby Goats

One of Grandpas nannies had babies last night… of course she just had to have her little dumplings on the coldest night we have seen so far this winter. Travis and I had decided to run them all into the small goat pen just in case one of them dropped but we were already too late…or just in time depending on how you look at it?!?! We found the nannie I call ”Spot” with a cold shivery baby at her feet. He looked pretty healthy other than being cold. When I stuck him in my jacket I noticed his ears were folded which usually only happens in multiple births. So I looked around and quickly found another very cold baby billy. The second one was in pretty bad shape. We got them all moved in the barn. Mom and the first little billy were doing pretty good, but the puney baby just couldn’t get on his feet at all he had gotten to cold and his surger dropped. We ended up taking him to the house to get him warmed up and fed… He did perk up overnight and this afternoon we were able to take him back out and reunite him with his momma and brother. It was a very happy reunion for all of them! I went out to check on them a couple of hours ago and they are all three doing good. The weak one is still having some trouble with muscle control in his legs but he is walking and nursing and trying very hard to keep up with his brother. All good signs! Unfortunately this afternoon Isabel and I found a third baby that I had missed in the dark. Of course she didn’t make it in such extreme temperatures. I felt pretty sad that she was left out in the cold like that. Hard lesson learned, I will start taking a spot light from now on. We should have more babies soon. We have at least two more mommas  ready to kid out. I hope we have more multiples but I hope they have them in the day and not in the dark, and some more girls would be nice! The boys don’t have names yet. We will keep you posted though! Here are some pictures we took this evening. I don’t care what species, babies are a gift and I think God intended for us to enjoy His handy work! ENJOY!

So… I’m Going Back to School!!

I have decided that it is time to go back to school and get more education in my area of work. I love graphic design and am passionate about using my skill to help further God’s Kingdom. I will be working towards a Graphic Design Diploma through the Art Institute of Pittsburgh on-line addition. I will be starting January 12th. I am really excited! Pray for us as we adjust our schedules to something new.

Homemade Laundry Soap

While we were at Roswell for Thanksgiving my Aunt Peggy mentioned that she had watched the TLC  TV Show “17 and Counting” (that is the show about the Dugger family now has 18 kids)… Anyway the particular episode she watched was all about how they do certain things, like pack for a trip, sort laundry….. ect. ect. One of the the things that they talked about was that they make their own laundry soap. So the other day I got to thinking about how much laundry we ALWAYS have, and how much laundry soap we go through, and how expensive laundry soap can be, and what a pain in the rear it is when we run out and are between pay periods. So I got on the net and found this recipe, here is the link to it…

http://www.thesimpledollar.com/2008/04/09/making-your-own-laundry-detergent-a-detailed-visual-guide/

I did make a batch of our own homemade laundry soap, we have been using it for about a week. So far we have had no problems with it at all. I did some searching of what people have said about making and using homemade laundry soap. I found that a lot of people had trouble finding some of the ingredients and had to use whatever was available in their area. I personally was not able to find the Arm and Hammer Wash Soda, other people have had the same problem and suggested using purex instead. I was able to find purex for about the same cost as washing soda. The bar  of soap that I chose to use is an old laundry bar called Zote,  I remember my granny talking about using Zote back in the day when she owned a washateria. I used about half of the bar for my batch. (the zote bar I found was two or three times the size of a regular bar) So far we have had great luck with the laundry soap, it smells good and it works as well as the Tide that I prefer to use but never buy because it cost $14-$25 bucks a bottle. The only thing that I did do different (but it probably is not necessary) was I happened to have a refill bottle of fabreeze, I poured about 1/2 cup into the mix before I poured it into containers.  Oh… and the other thing I did different was storage. I am refilling an old laundry soap container, and used a couple of old gallon juice containers to store the extra mix in. It does get a little gloopy, they say you can just pour it in your wash that way but I would rather shake it up before pouring it, and you can’t do that with a five gallon bucket like they say to use in the link above.

So the question is, will I continue to make my own laundry soap or will I go back to store bought???

As long as this continues to work well for our family andcleans our clothes well, I will continue to make my own. It was easy to make, only took about 20 minutes. The ingredients were only about $7.00, and  with the exception of the 98 cent Zote bar I have enough stuff to make many more batches. The batch we cooked made a little more than 3 gallons and we use a cup a load, which is more than the concentrated stuff you get in the store now days but what we made will last us about a month.  We do good to get 2 weeks out of what we normally get in the store.

So if you decide to make your own let me know what you think about it…

Beautiful Sunset

We love living in the country! There is nothing like a west texas sunset on a clear horizion! Here are a couple of pictures we took a couple of weeks ago from our backyard… ENJOY!dscf05201
